This was also in the box lot that I had recently acquired. Nice graphics and design on this one, too. Evidently there was a "This is the Army" All Soldier Show, which was produced by a group with the same name, that is "This is the Army, Inc." Could this have been an official function of the US government, or a private group, seeking to aid soldiers in need?

Regardless, the soldiers benefited from this production, and also from the sales of its sheet music…..

Army Emergency Relief (AER) was founded in 1942 as a non-profit organization, and is still operating today. It's not directly funded by the Federal Government and mostly relies on donations. Most U.S. military posts have an AER office.

Irving Berlin got approval from General George Marshall for producing a musical stage show using all army personnel as a morale booster in WWII. Most of the soldiers onstage and behind the scenes had worked in theater in their civilian jobs before the war. It opened on Broadway on July 4th, 1942 and toured the country through Feb 1943. During that time it raised $2 million for the Army Emergency Relief Fund. (info on the play from Wiki).

Very good, Chrisnp…I certainly appreciate your looking into and posting the info on the AER. Facts such as these fill in the historical gaps. Thank you for your input, and also for your love of this item!
