What in the world IS this??? I found this among my mother stuff after she passed away. It feels like it's solid bronze (magnets don't stick to it). It's very heavy, about 5 1/2" long. Very cool segments with raised animal & figures all along one side. The other side is just segments. I'd like to do research on it--but that would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
It almost looks 'other-worldly'. Can anyone tell me what the heck this is?
Thanks

It's a bottle opener....................for soda bottles.
Yes indeed...a bottle opener indeed!!!
Alrighty then...guess I feel a bit like a dork...thanks for the help. That truly was my first guess, but it seemed too heavy and ornate to be a bottle opener. Do either of you know if it's American made?
I don't know that....but it sure is an elaborate and fancy ones. Quite the masterpiece.
Bottle opener? I was thinking can opener, the kind the punches a hole in a can so you can pour the contents out.
Yes, it's quite elaborate..what took me away from the bottle opener idea was it has deep scratches all around the tip of the nose. What do you make of those?
Perhaps when used as a can opener, when it makes it's initial punch into the can and is scratched up by the metal it goes through?
Haven't a clue, maybe the owner used it for some other spurious purpose !
