Anyone know the history of this cast iron fire? It's very heavy and looks like its lined with concrete.

Anyone know the history of this cast iron fire? It's very heavy and looks like its lined with concrete.

This is a beautiful thing and I would love it in my new home...named a Parlor stove and would have been used to heat the front parlors of Victorian homes as well as being used for cooking on..."Created with all of the embellishments that Victorians loved, these intricately detailed stoves kept Victorian society toasty in their drafty winter homes."...hope this helps with you search...:-)

Hi, I'm sorry I just found email in the junk folder. I have done some research and think I found interesting info. Mine I think is a pre "Esse" fire ,are by Smith and Wellstood , made in Bonniville. They date back to 1872! It is an open face fire they would open the doors and a grate to stop wood rolling out in front of door. The side bit is for loading the wood in it. It's actually a stove from what I can tell. Try Dragon fire, or Queenie that Esse made as well. I searched Hi and low for makers mark but believe it's the claw like or leafy thing in the pattern that is a Smith and Wellstood mark! If you start with that maker, they were not around and changed hands but very interesting. Mine and plastic stuff in the doors it s called Mica, it depends on how many windows in the doors etc. I was told it could have been in the first class train carriages, also look under Parlour Stoves or Cast Iron Stove Museums you just might find it there.
