New addition to my growing collection of doll trunks. Running out of room for the full size ones so getting my trunk fix by buying and refinishing the doll trunks. This measures 14 wide and 10 inches tall, it has the alligator pattern metal covering, and brass lock plate. I need to hunt down some small buckles so I can make replacement straps for the front. You can see holes and missing metal on the front where the buckle and straps were attached. Hope to have it refinished soon, I will post pictures when it is done. Update pictures on March 12th I've completed the exterior first two pictures are the after the others are what it looked like when I purchased it. I still need to make a tray to replace the original that was lost over the years.

That is really amazing looking! Not one that you see often.

That's a wonderful little addition, the buckles will look great back on that one.
My wife would really appreciate your approach to collecting the smaller trunks. They must save a lot of space. I'm currently happily buried in the big ones driving- her nuts.Neat you can store those inside the big ones, box inside of a box.

Really nice KathyKay, I like that covering on this one. You should pile all those doll trunks together and post a pic for us, kinda get the trunk junkie in all of us going ya know.

FatBoy64 I just posted some of the smaller trunks that I have so the trunk junkies on this site can get their fix for the day. I know how the trunk addiction feels, I've had it for years. I really enjoy the postings that folks add to this site it motivates me to find more trunks and get them finished.

      Thanks for the fix Kat.

Problem is Drill, you have to get them more & more often! No known support group yet? Kicked the habit some yrs back but find myself clk'n on every nice one that comes up on CW. Withdrawal is a "B"! I love this alligator pattern in metal & never seen it before.

Lovely piece you found KathyKay -- I love the proportions and the nice slats on this one -- great find!

I ck'd "Email me ---", & every time this comes up, I have to look at it again. Do you know what kind of sheet metal? Assume, not copper, zinc gets surface corrosion real quick, so I'm guessing tin.
    12. KathyKay, 9 years ago
I would guess it is tin, the trunk has the original finish on it which is a brown color. In places the finish is worn exposing the metal. The metal has a shine to it similar to the other doll trunk that I have with the weave pattern, Think it is tin but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I had wondered. Of course it is hard to tell on really old things.

Help with the lock. It appears to be misaligned.? What a great little trunk. Finding myself jealous of the little girl who got this one for a gift.:-)
    15. KathyKay, 9 years ago
I posted a picture of the exterior completed, one shows the lock head on. In the before pictures the lock looked misaligned but in the head on view you can tell that is the way it is designed. The latch is on the left side, keyhole on the right. Like you I would love to know the history of the original owner, she must have been from a wealthy family.

Yes, another little gem! Very nice work, it looks great. The embossed metal on most of these was tin and a few earlier ones had zinc but that's usually pretty easy to spot from the color of it.

TrunkerMarvin - thank you. I'm working on another doll trunk now it has the embossed flower - leaf design.
