It's a wind up deco clock. The front (black) part is made if Bakelite and it's on a marble base. It still works! The imprint says "ORIS" or "ORLS" I believe it's Italian

ORIS is a well renowned swiss watch brand and have been around since the turn of the last century,your clock is from the 50 's,hence he use of bakelite.
