Distinctive Central Office and Business Office signs were a hallmark of New Eng Tel & Tel. This particular 1921 vintage sign measuring 25"x42" was usually found hanging from a multi-story brick faced city exchange building. But not always...I can recall one of these signs hanging from a horizontal pipe in the front yard of the Wickford, RI exchange. I know because I did chin ups on the pipe! The sign's shape is appealing with a decided colonial look: chipendale top and curved bottom. All that's missing is the pineapple in top center. The wrought iron bracket
adds a classic touch. Another version of this sign was placed in limited service without the curved bottom.
