I have been trying to ID this beautiful vase (from grandmother's collection of glass). A suggestion that it might be Welz or Harrach in origin led me to find this post:

The yellow glass itself looks like the same as the 2 leftmost vases in that post. The crimped edge is similar (but not the snowflake design), although the ribs are much wider. The vase is about 7.5" tall. Thanks for looking and any input!

I have never seen this shape of vase before..... I am not sure if Harrach did a ribbon edge of clear like this vase has... I wish I could tell you more, but I am at a loss. It does bear a resemblance to the two Welz pieces in my post, but I would not attribute it to Welz based solely on that....

It is a great shape... I love it....

Thanks for taking a look; I'll keep on keeping my eye out. The 2 vases you showed are the only others that had some similarities (mostly the glass itself).

Welcome to CW by the way....

Thank you! I do have another vase that is Bohemian I believe (nothing like this one). I'll post it within the next few days. Another mystery item...

Hi wanna. To echo Cindi before me, Wow! What a fabulous colour and unusual shape. Just out of curiosity, the yellows so vivid, have you tried it under uv light? I have this little yellow pot i had no idea was uranium, this ones lined in white..

Vintagefran, I just saw this post. I believe I did put it under a black light and it was unremarkable, kind of blotchy as I recall. I'll try again though!

Hi wenna, funny, I would've said it was uranium...I know nothing :)

Hi wenna..yes! yours is very much like mine...:-)

You know, it does turn green, but kind of murky. Maybe because of the satin finish? And inky, yes, it is the shape that caught my eye. If you ever learn anything, please post!

For what it is worth, without seeing pics of the color under UV, which can be extremely tricky to take, the color green you describe as "murky" may be the green glow resulting from a concentration of manganese in the glass, as opposed to the brighter green generally seen as a result of uranium salts. It is generally a much deeper shade of green, and nowhere near as pronounced as the bright green glow associated with uranium.

Thanks for your insight welzebub. You are right, it doesn't have that kind of green glow. The reason I revisited this post is because elsewhere I read that a dark residue in the pontil scar may be due to the use of an iron pontil as opposed to a steel pontil which came into usage circa 1875. It reminded me of this vase. Ah well, I will keep poking around. It's fun when you come across a reference that may be pertinent; it renews the enthusiasm for the search! Thanks again!
