I've been waiting all week to pick this up. It had been out on the floor and I asked to put it in the display case for safe keeping so it wouldn't get broken. The plan worked it was still there today. Tomorrow it would have been half price. My friend at Salvation let me have it a day early so I could avoid the chaos of the sale and the chance of the weather turning bad. While fairly new it is such a cool piece. It's 11" tall and the bowl is 8" in diameter. The form is called a jelly fish or sometimes an octopus compote because of the tentacle-like rods that support the bowl. I've seen these in other colors but this one is particularly convincing in this amethyst color with the white swirls and casing. Jozefina glass is in Krosno Poland and has been making glass since 1982. I also have a large handerkerchief vase by them that I posted a while back. ( http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/97619-jozefina-ruffle-or-handkerchief-vase ) That carries their label but this piece has no marks or labels. The unique shape made it very easy to ID. -Mike-

    Jozefina Glass History
    Courtesy of Amazon.com

The Jozefina Factory was founded in 1982 by Jozef Jankowski, a well-known artist and glass blower. His daughter-Ella Jankowska Fishman has emerged as a leading glass designer. Her designs bring a breath of freshness to the art glass world. Jozefina Art Glass Atelier is recognized worldwide as a leading European manufacturer of hand blown art glass combining sophisticated, classical and contemporary design with highly skilled craftsmanship. Inspired design, expressive style, beautiful and elegant shapes make our art glass unusual and innovative. Each piece is hand blown and hand finished which makes every item artistic and unique. At Jozefina we value the old, traditional techniques of glass blowing dated back as far as the 10th century. We are located in Krosno-Poland, the oldest glass and crystal producing area in Europe. The artistic skill of fine art glass blowing has been passed down through the family generations. Our masters glass blowers create art rarely found today. We are delighted to introduce a wide variety of shapes and vibrant colors.

Thanks CindB :)... It just goes to show that new pieces can be beautiful and innovative. Although, I do love my antiques.

I always thought these were Polish so thanks for the identification Mike!
I have to say that glass like this might not survive here - I'm so glad you got it home in one piece.

Thanks Karen :)...... It's pretty sturdy despite it's appearance. Rim chips would be the major concern but not this beauty !

Thanks for the "love" Rose :)....This is really one of the nicer ones. I've seen others online in horrible colors with only four very thick sagging legs and crooked tops. Maybe those were not by Josefina. Their pieces are very well made.

Agreed. I found one something like yours on-line and was going to buy it. Then I was afraid via the post --- the legs would get smashed -- so I passed it by.

...and now I have run out of room anyways......LOL

I know that...Most things I've bought lately are all packed away too Rose. In fact I always try to get the sturdy office paper boxes with the lids when I can. :)

@Mike -- Yup, you know you have too many things when you start packing it in boxes and your NOT moving.....LOL

I have More Murano glass packed away in boxes....YIKES. Is there a 12-step program for collectors.
