It seems like there was always a pay phone by a Service Station in the olden days? Of course our grandkids have no idea what those small square boxes that people in olden days movies went in to, nor do they know why they went in them or even know who Clark Kent was!!! Why would anyone want to use a Pay Phone when you can.ask anyone on the street to borrow their cell phone for an emergency call or text. When we finally bought this old phone booth up in Twin Falls Id off of a Craigslist ad I just knew we would have to make some sort of deal with Clark Kent to make a clothes changing booth out of it for his use. My grandkids have no idea what I am even talking about nor who that guy is in the "little box"? Get this one: we pay $65 for the phone booth and pay $230 for the gas to go get it and get back!!! Doesn't include the hotel because we stayed with friends, nor does it include food for two days! You will all relate to that if you chase old signs and pumps like we do! Good hunting!!!

Nahhhhh! The British Booth came from a. Local Craigslist ad that my son saw while I was on vacation and Clark refuses to go it it as they "talk with an accent in there", he reports! We paid a "little" more for that one, but it has shiny paint. And beveled glass. Lots of beveled glass! This one is an indoor model as it is made of wood not metal. Still very heavy however.

Never knew the Brit phones to be made of wood? What crown is at the top?

Ha! You ask an old man hard questions. I'm out of State on vacation and have no idea about the crown on it. Just knew it was a pretty ph booth so we bought it. Maybe it's a fake? Looks real to me and had a ph in it one time. It's just for looks for us and Clark already has his deal in the American booth so no prob. Thanks for keeping me on my toes. Sure has a lot of hand work on it and a lot of beveled glass

The crowns vary. For instance, the English boxes had a diff. crown than the Scottish boxes.

ZOWIE! I learn something new every day. I never knew that before? Hmmmm? I hear a lot of "new" things as I get older. I find that there is nothing graceful about old age & old jokes have become new jokes once more? Interesting. So how do I tell which crown is which?

Yrs. back, I was thinking about opening a mail & communications business on the French side & thought an old Eng. phone box would look good out front but cost of buying & shipping an original was prohibitive. Since I have wood skills, decided to make a repro out of red woods & ordered a book on them that explained all that. Should be easy now days to find O/L.

Expensive you say? Tell me something thwt isn't expensive these days? I had a guy offer me a very cool Signal sign the other day and it said $8500 in the email!!! My son said he made a mistake and accidentally added the extra zero like I did in the word ESSSO For the article. I told my son that he guy was serious!!!! That is nuts to pay that much for a sign! It's also NUTS to pay $18 for pistachios at COSTCO but a lot of people do it. I just can't get my head around these crazy inflated rices we see these days?

You gotta luv IPads! They just write whatever they want and spell it any way they want and nuts to the guy operating it!!! They had to be invented by teenagers and it's just another form of rebellion against old people and parents. It's more fun to hunt old signs than it is to try and correct the crazy things an IPad does to a message.

Todays prices! You & me both. I can't believe some of the bids I see on ebay! Of course it's just the devaluation of the money because they print it with nothing to back it & call it "inflation" because it sounds better.

Yep! We have quite the brilliant people in Washington running our Country! They manipulate about every number known to man to deceive the public and the public is so uninformed they let it happen and keep voting the same criminals back in to office? Really? They tell us we don't have inflation and we believe it when the basics of life have tripled in 6 yrs? No inflation? Signs are now double what they were 2 yrs ago and they are hardly "needed" items, except for some of us OCD a people who have to have our cats, dogs and signs to be able to function and we have a "doctors note" to prove it! I actually had a lady apply for a job who taught me about the "doctors note" allowing her (demanding by law) to bring her pet to live in our "no pets allowed" apartment? Good thing she didn't qualify for the job. I'm old and have opinions and am old fashioned American with old fashioned literal interpretation of the Constitution. America is so great we can even survive the bad guys within us! Keep on Hunting!

Hope you are right in your last sentence but have serious doubts myself! Gov't's should be able to at least balance a checkbook, but doubt that any politicians have even balanced their own since they "won" their positions & don't have to even worry about such a thing with all they take in. I keep track of the economy by watching the prices of antique firearms. They are now selling a about the same price as the 50's. With the 1,000 devaluation of the $, that means they are selling for 10% of 50's prices! Disgusting!! The U.S. is now the largest counterfeiting ring in the world!

You continue to word things to make me laugh, even tho the subject is serious. We just collect the stuff you see at aaalakeside storage and some of the modern guns because we are country hicks and have to have a gun to keep the Bears and Wolves from the little kids. We do get excited about the price and availability of ammo as DC has figured out that they can control that as it is not protected by the Constitution. Scary thought! In the mean time we will just keep collecting signs and gas pumps and the like and have as much fun as we can in the process.

My words were not intended to make you laugh, but hopefully, to make people in your country to think. Even people on this small island reload ammo. Have complete reloading equip. (sans scales) that I am trying to help sell (about 60-70 lbs) & people here say they already have it! $200 for all of it, - & can't find a buyer!! We can get powder from the French & have 17 lbs here! Go figure! Of course France has more freedom though. Hope that doesn't send a shock wave thru the Amer. community.

Exactly what small island are you on and where is it and in what Country? I assume it is French? Yes we have our problems with govt and our leaders appear to believe that Europe can do it better than we can so we are following their failed economic policies? Yes I am a student of economics and no I don't believe in spending more than you take in. Dumb from any business perspective and why should we pay interest on loans for non essential things anyway? Let's focus on the important things in life like porcelain signs, antique guns, old gas pumps and the like. Hard work is good for us and we all ought to do more of it. That includes some sign hunting of course!

St. Maarten/St. Martin. Half Dutch, half French. Afraid it's not a good place for sign hunting because they don't last long with the salt & hurricanes.
