I researched this via the serial number stamped on the frame near the rear wheel. It is a 1963 Schwinn Co-Ed, it has peddle back Bendix Brakes. It does not appear to have the kick-back 2-speed available on some of them nor the hand brakes. Everything appears to be original including the peddles as they have the Schwinn Plus (Cross) on them. The paint is in pretty rough shape, but overall I think it looks good for a 48yr old Bike.

I found it on the side of the road with a free tag on it and immediately snatched it up. after adding air to the tires it was ready to ride. In a perfect world I'd like to get it restored, but I'll probably just ride it like it is.

Yes indeed, ride it ! that's what they were built for, should you decide to restore at some future date I would do that but I also think I'd continue to ride . Nice pick..by the way it's 'Pedals'. ;-)

How much do you think a bike like that is worth in ave cond. In todays market. I have one just like it and it is a blast to ride. It has some scratches on it but no rust and is all original. Looks like it was not ridden alot at all.

Girls bikes are generally worth a fair bit less than boys bikes, because boys were a lot harder on their bikes as a rule. Yes, condition is everything, but "average" is totally subjective. Average condition to one guy is poor condition to the next guy. There is a blue one in *excellent* condition for $299 on eBay, and that one is WAY overpriced.

If it were a boys '63 Schwinn of this style in excellent condition, $250 would even be pretty high. A transition bike with the middleweight tires and tank from the early '60s would be in the $300 or so range, depending on condition. Dan, I would say that your bike is probably worth $150 on a good day. Hope that helps.
