Another Saratoga Springs N.Y house find, it has labels on it from Montgomery Wards, Albany N.Y., but I don't know if it contained alcohol or perhaps was a Root Beer/countertop type of barrel. Researched a little bit with no luck. Thank you.

Hard to tell anything without size reference, it could be full size from the pics here....
It measures 12 inches in diameter across the top and bottom, and is approximately 21 inches long.
I am sorry, I made a mistake when I posted this, it says Montgomery Wards not Woolworths on the barrel....I also confuse these two stores..sorry again!!
can you smell anything when you remove the cork?
Can't smell anything, after I remove the cork, the Montgomery ward label makes me think they sold it retail to a consumer, back in the day, but I don't recall any department type stores selling wine or whisky barrels.
This was probably used in a store display of some sort, Cowboy days or something like that... I think it's great.
