i found this great piece at Urban Ore in Berkeley today. it has it's original paint - w/ a great, old, checkered patina. i don't think it was made to hang, but to sit on a table or shelf. it's very large - 29" wide by 27" long x 12" tall. i wish i had more room for this but i don't have table/shelf space.

That is big! What is it made of?

I like your airplane and I mean you no disrespect, but I think your airplane is a new plane made for the hobby shop to sell to the customers to look old.

I agree with official on this.

The man is different from what is usually encountered but the plane itself has all of the signs of being a modern hobby lobby item.

Remember the old fishing line from the ceiling? That's where it can live.....

thank you blunderbuss2, officialfuel, scottvez, racer4four, and Virginia.vintage! i don't think it's too new, as there are repairs and replacements of screws and bolts on it. it's made of wood and metal and the figure is glazed ceramic. it all appears to be handmade and coated w/ varnish which has aged and discolored. there is also some crackling in the rubber tires, as well as in the finish. it appears to be genuine, and not faked. i don't know how old it is, but it's certainly not brand new.

Enjoy it! It looks good and will display nicely.

We will have to "agree to disagree" on this one. I see all the telltale signs of a modern, artificially aged decorator piece.

I'm sorry and have to agree with officialfuel, the phillips head screws are a dead give-a-way!

Critics aside, I would luv to have it hanging from the ceiling in my office/shop at the airport/aerodrome. (Yes, they actually use "aerodrome" here often). What can I say!

Cultcha-- appreciate you allowing contrary opinions to be posted, so that others who use this site for research can see the thoughts of a group of collectors.

Some collectors are quick to delete contrary opinions to give the appearance of a consensus. Here is an example with a 1980s bud mirror:

thanks blunderbuss2 and again scottvez! i really appreciate your taking the time to teach me the details of this. so often, people simply dismiss a piece, and just as often, owners refuse to see the real faults in their piece. it's rare that someone takes the time to teach about this kind of thing. i would have written sooner, but my keyboard died and only garbledy-gook came out of it.

That's a better excuse than a postcard a girlfriend showed me that I had written while on a diving trip back in the '60's. I wrote, "I would have written sooner, but nobody was at home". Still trying to figure that one out! LOL!!
