I found this gem at an Estate sale. It's in great condition and still very sturdy. What I liked the most was the size, it's only 38" tall and 18.5" at its widest part. The depth is 29" and without the arms it fits in smaller places like a quest room perfectly. I tried to look for the origins or age but have been struggling to find all qualities in one chair. Also I have not been able to find a number or identifying marking unless I'm not looking in the correct location. It is coated with a black lacquer and due to the aging of it I believe it was the original color but not sure. Bottom of seat is still natural color, as shown in one pic. If you could please shed any information it would be appreciated. There are some nails that are flush but seen when upside down, That's all I know is it an old shaker style rocker treated with black lacquer and has a gold design painted. It could be a sewing rocker due to size and being armless but I really don't know much about it. Thank you in advance!!

You might be better served calling this shaker style. If you are correct that the finish is original then it certainly is not shaker. They didn't use black. Their original rockers also had the skids attached in a straddling manner both front and rear. You may want to research a bit more. There were break aways from both the shakers and the Amish that went into business building their own lines of furniture.

Thank you for your time and information. I am unsure if the lacquer is original but it has to be old looking at the texture. Also I am unsure what you meant by skids but I will keep looking. Hopefully I will get other comments to assist me with the research. Thanks again
