Hi all, just acquired this antique chair. It has a hand written note underneath that says "Recd 1894 Sweden." Is this information accurate? Does late 19th century Sweden sound right?

Any other information anyone has would be great. Specifically, what were these chairs used for? In my research I have seen them referred to by many different names, one of which was a Peasant Chair. Who used this type of chair? To my (novice) eyes it seems very high quality and elaborate for a mere servant! ??

Any information/links to help me learn about this piece would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Is that detail carved or painted to look carved?

      Hi sir-
It's all carved. It looks like it was painted black and then carved in relief to expose the natural wood underneath. Any ideas as to its origin and date or any other information?
