I just purchased this clock last week. I would love to know who made it. It is an arts & crafts mission style grandfather clock but there is no makers mark. It is all Oak. It stands 78.5 inches tall. It's age is 100 years or better. It contains a humidor and mini bar inside the case. The outer part of the case contains a painting of a gentleman and it also has the words 'Tyme waiteth upon no man Help Yourself' carved on the front under the painting. The pendulum leader is wrong.. Seems it should have a shorter one and not this makeshift stick because the pendulum swings into the glasses for the mini bar at the low level its at plus I see where a shelf was removed at the level it is at. I am trying to research it.
Not a clock guy, but think this would fall more under a case clock cat..
To me it looks like it has an Arts & Crafts look...:-)
Hi inky! Was going to call you tonite but talking to somebody & it got too late. You might be right after taking a closer look. HTS, are the shelves plywood? Plywood goes back to ancient Egypt, but one can certainly tell the diff. in consistency from one century to the next.
The ad for the clock did say it is an Arts & Crafts Mission Style Grandfather Clock. There is no plywood, it's all Oak. There is no makers mark on it and the movement has no information on it neither.
I've never seen anything like it. It's an interesting piece. As I go to Estate Sales, I see basement bars and entertainment lounges. The humorous inscription pretty much says it all.
Something like this would fit right in and I could see it being made by an accomplished handy man. Someone who knew their way around a wood shop. I agree with you that the pendulum leader does not fit the case. One would expect the pendulum rod to go up close enough to the movement so that the leader hook was not visible. If I had to guess (and I do) I would say that the movement was taken from a wall clock of some kind. Again, I'm guessing there.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help here. If you could include some photos of the movement that could be helpful. Closeups of the fit and finish of the case might help too. If there is evidence of power tooling, for example, that would suggest more recent construction of the case.

Bruce I will get some pictures of the movement and the fit and finish and put them up here. The finish is original and not touched which makes it more desirable. There is 1 other clock like this that I saw when I googled Tyme waiteth upon no man Help Yourself. Live auctioneers auctioned one off a few years back. It went for $1800. It's the same clock but it's missing the man on the front and instead it's open there and it's a short pendulum. They did note the pendulum has been replaced. I agree with you on the pendulum type. I also think it needs to be heavy.
I found that now. Auctioned in 2010. It's not the same clock as the quarter-sawn oak door grain pattern is different. Does your clock keep accurate time with the current pendulum? Perhaps this was a Kit Clock of some kind or maybe there was a furniture maker who cased movements to offer this Wine Rack/Clock to the public. The hands may provide some clue as to the manufacturer of the movement. They look vaguely familiar.

That doesn't give us much specific information but it does suggest an area to search for clues as to the approximate circa of your clock.
Those clock hands in the link you gave Bruce do look exactly the same. I haven't had time today to take pictures but soon as Easter ends I will. No the clock I have doesn't keep accurate time and that's because the pendulum is wrong. I believe your right about it needing a short one the bob basically covers. I will post the movement pictures tomorrow.
HTS, go to http://mb.nawcc.org/. Read over the FAQ page and register. You can then post your clock information in the General Section for help with identification and you can also post in the Clock Repair Section for help in figuring out the appropriate Pendulum for it. I know that the one sold at auction in 2010 had a much shorter pendulum which showed through the glass which is something one might expect to see. Your clock has a reverse painted scene in your clock but we suspect the pendulum is wrong. My guess is that it is too long and as a result the clock probably runs slow, is that right? At any rate, go to the NAWCC's message board for help.
