Souvenir of Dallas Texas ... likely pre-1909

If anyone has seen similar Souvenir Giant Coins I would like to hear about them.

I have seen giant, and miniatures, in a lot of coins specifically the wheat penny and silver dollars, but believe many were made for nothing other than novelty items.

This was made as a novelty item specifically for Dallas.

Does you wheat penny advertise anything? Is there anything different than the normal wheat penny, besides size and metal type?

After my grandmother passed away, our family was sorting what to keep and what to sell. I kept a sovenir coin exactly like the one pictured. My son, who is 5, has taken up an interest in coin collecting. I gave him the dallas, texas sovenir coin today. He, of course, would like to know its value. (sign or a tru collector, right?) Also, when and where would these coins have been given out?

I believe the date to these may well be before 1909. In 1909 we changed to a Lincoln Head "Wheat Cent". The value is unknown to me. I have not set a price and as of your post the number of these that exist has doubled.

These were not likely given away, but were likely bought as souvenirs. The State Fair of Texas opened in Dallas on October 26, 1886 and closed on November 7, 1886 with an attendance of about 100,000 people. That would have been likely the place these were sold.
