I purchased this U.S. MARSHAL DEPUTY, ABILENE, KANSAS badge from an antique auction several years ago. It was very dirty when I purchased it, and recently I done something very stupid. I CLEANED IT SOME. I have done a lot of research on this badge and found one posted saying it was from the Wild Bill Hickok era when he served as Marshal in Abilene, Kansas in 1861. He killed his own Deputy by mistake and never had another gunfight. I have sent several messages to different places in Abilene, Kansas and have never received an answer. When I found this site, I thought it wouldn't hurt to try and see if I could find out something. Man, if I could find out if this is an authentic badge from that era, I would be a happy camper. My pictures make it look brass but it is a heavy metal. You can see in picture #3 some of the dirtiness I missed. At the bottom point on the star, there is a tiny place where you can tell there was a mis-strike on the curved little design that is on all six points. I have not found any on the computer like this one. If someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I know there are a lot of companies that make reproductions to sale but none I have seen on the computer has made one like this one. Oh I hope I have a treasure and I can find out some good news from someone who cares. If it is real, sure would like to know what it's worth. THANK YOU!

i have the exact same badge (markings, wording, etc). I got it at a flea market when I was a kid back in Texas. I have never been able to find out anything regarding it. Please let me know if you do. I will also do the same.

Photos are not good enough to see any details.
These are HEAVILY Reproduced-- several examples out there would have me leaning toward a reproduction. Check ebay and see if you find any there.
Sorry to say I am holding the exact same badge right now in my hand, Wow, what a bummer
