This Tea Set is an original Brown Betty wrapped with Silver Inlay. It's the original Red Clay tea pot and makes the very best cup of tea.

I would like to find out more about its history and the "Sea Dragon" medallion stamped on the silver.

    Enjoy, Jeannette

You may have already found out something by now, but I liked your teapot and wanted to find out more :) Not sure if this helps, but it's interesting
"The original Brown Betty teapot dates back to the 1700s. The teapots started off as small, unglazed, and made with special red terracotta clay. In 1695, the Elder Brothers discovered the special red clay in the area of Bradell Woods, near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
The British believe that the Brown Betty teapot makes the best pot of tea in the world. For one, the red clay used has better heat retention. Secondly, the shape of the teapot allows the tea leaves to swirl around inside the teapot whenever hot water is gently added."
"Since the real thing can be scarce frauds are quite common. Do not be fooled by a plain brown ceramic teapot with deceptive labeling! While ordinary generic ceramic teapots are fine, they do not have the exceptional qualities of a genuine Brown Betty. If the teapot doesn’t have a British flag sticker on it and doesn’t have “Cauldon” and “Made in England” on the bottom it’s not the genuine article and will fall short of expectations."

It looks like maybe that medallion was blank, and whoever purchased the pot could personalize it with a monogram or a dragon or whatever!

WOW.. after all this time .. thanks for all the comments and ideas. I have checked the set for marks and the creamer has England stamped on the bottom along with other symbols that I really can't make out.

With all the info from everyone here, I'm going to do more research and see what comes up. Thanks very much and please stay in touch. Cheers, Monaleasa
