This is one of my latest finds: The ring is marked 14K and was tested for gold. I usually don’t buy gold but I liked this ring. Unfortunately, one of the smaller opals has a little chip. The fault is not visible by the naked eye and because the ring was priced below the actual value of the gold, I decided to buy it. I am thinking to take the ring to a jeweler to see if it would make sense to have it fixed; but then again I am not planning to sell it and one really cannot tell. Maybe I should just enjoy it the way it is. What do you think?

I am not sure about the age of the ring. I have seen modern rings with three opals but the setting of my ring appears to be different, more playful. My guess is that the ring is a vintage ring, possibly at least a few decades old.

    Thanks for looking:)

I agree the style is not modern but sooo wearable.
Wear it I think, don't bother with getting the chip fixed. On your hand who would notice?

This style of setting opals has been around since late Victorian times and has always been very popular. In NZ, Aust & UK it is known as a London Bridge setting, or just a bridge setting.

My wife has one very similar and lost one of the stones. Our opal jewellers (Opal Pacific) replaced it and told us this was the style of antique opal rings they saw most often. They also said that several of these rings were recovered from the famous SS Elingamite wreck, which sank in 1902.

So your ring is an antique, or vintage/estate, and is certainly worth a decent amount more than the gold value - Good Score!

ps I wouldn't bother fixing the chip, no one will ever notice.

Thank you so much, everyone, for your comments and help:
Racer4four, you are absolutely correct. I shouldn't worry about the small chip. When I am wearing it, nobody will see it.

Mikelv85, thanks a lot for your comment too. After posting the ring I started to think, too, that it was a great find. I almost didn't buy it because usually I wear silver, not gold.

Kiwipaul, I really appreciate your kind words and information. I used your comments to help me search for similar rings and found some other examples. Thanks so much!

Very nice, worth getting it valued, if not only for insurance purposes.
