I have this coin brooch pin. I'm think it's Asian possible Thai but not sure. I don't even know if these are real coins. The brooch does appear to be handmade. It has an old c-clasp. It is gold in color but is it gold? I only hope. Has anyone seen something like this? Any idea as to the characters?

Unfortunately, I do not have time now to cross reference the AD (Arabic dating) or the denominations for you. - You may want to have it tested for gold though because these were minted in both silver and gold, depending on denomination.

You were more than helpful. Thanks much. I can research it. And I will have it tested for gold.

May in fact predate the Republic of Turkey - in other words, Ottoman Empire

Dear stwillia76, how many interesting pieces do you have!
As aghcollect indicated these coins are resembled to the ones used during the Ottoman Empire. I said resemble because they might be a recreation for jewellery.
The central inscription depited is called tughra https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tughra

Here are some links with related with otoman coin brooches (it might be helpful for price reference and descripcion)

If you would like to date the coins there are special catalogues as '''world coins''.

      Kind regards

Thanks Antique. Yes I got a bunch of interesting things from a jewelers estate in Florida. There are more things I need to get identified because I just can't do it myself.
And thanks for the Chilean Headdress thingy.
