This is part of a collection my mother in law left me. It is a really cute bow made out of stone with a different color stone surrounding it. The metal seems to be sterling silver, I used a polishing cloth on a small section and it shines and a magnet does not stick to it. The back has a JH and ABD hallmarks. I have found several JH, but no ABD. Also, I am not sure if the JH could be John Hardy? Any ideas....anyone?

Can't help for the makers mark for the moment, the brooch is Scottish granite stones, the fashion of 5hese was launched by Queen Victoria, who adored her Balmoral mansion.
      Lovely!

Thanks for the welcome! I love this site! It is really helping me to identify items I inherited from my great grandmother and my mother in law. Now I can make notes for my kids so they don't have to go through what I am :)

Thanks lisasrund2. Still need help with the JH. Most of the JH hallmarks I am finding seem to be sterling flatware.

Thank you. It seems similar ones are listed as c. 1870-80? Does anyone think this is in that range?

This lovely brooch is made of Aberdeen granite. It is backed by slate and probably silver. Aberdeen granite is often marked in many shades of salt and pepper gray as well as pink and salmon pink tones. Wear it proudly! It is beautiful. It probably was made before 1901 when Queen Victoria passed away and the desire for all things Scottish faded through the years.

That's a nice thing to have been given. Not a huge amount of Aberdeen silver around (incase you didn't know, Aberdeen's nickname is the granite city and virtually every building is made from it). I actually grew up just outside a small village called Kemnay where the main granite mine is located. I'm quite jealous!

Oh thank you Hamish! It is quite a heavy piece! I put it up in my jewelry box :) I actually have a 2nd brooch, similar, that I am hoping to get posted as well. It looks alot like the link for leopard antiques that Kyra tango posted
