I have a strange little box. It measures approximately 4.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 inches. It has a 3-d, what I will call, Decoupage scene under a thin hard plastic or glass. The scene is of a Victorian Mansion and country scene. It is a wonderful little box. There are no markings. Nothing at all as to how old it is. Don't know if it is a rare thing. Has someone seen anything like it before? Could even be a trinket box. Can't really call it a shadow box.

Your nice old box is around 1840, from the glass beeing held with golden guède paper. Usually encountered in papercard, and the decor is mostly painted under glass (called églomisé).
Unsusual to see this 3D effect :-)

      Oops, read "gilded glued paper"!
