One of the things I collect is flatware from railroad dining cars. These items are relics of glamorous rail travel from days gone by, with luxury accommodations, great food and great service. Shown are examples of flatware from the Erie, Lackawanna, Erie-Lackawanna and the might Pennsylvania Railroad. All these pieces have travelled thousands of miles and have overheard countless conversations. If only these items could talk. The best part of collecting items like these is that they still do their intended jobs just as designed. I normally pull different pieces out of my collection and eat my Sunday dinner with them! By the way, railroad items are usually silver plate, not silver. Silver plate is much heavier and doesn't bounce off the table. After all, a dining car presents a constantly moving, vibrating environment.

Pretty neat. I am going to keep a look out for some of these pieces.
