As promised katherinescollections, a Silver Gilt Enamel Egg.
The Marks are 925 with a Hammer and Sickle which means this Egg was made after 1958, there are also other Marks I can see ( :9 and a mark I'm not familiar with) The colours, in my opinion are wonderful with dark blues, Turquoise, several shades of pink and white. The size without the loop on the top is 20mm top to bottom and 14mm at its widest, it as a nice heavy weight. I was wondering if anybody can tell me why these eggs have a hole at the bottom.
    Many thanks for looking

Thanks so much for sharing your pendant, Peasejean! It has the type of twisted wire as in my enamelled earrings which I think is so pretty. My guess with the hole is a missing link and dangling something or other? As you saw on my earrings, there is a link and missing something or other, I assume another bead or perhaps a fringe. Maybe someone else can give better information. In any case, this is beautiful!!

The hole at the bottom is needed for soldering two halves, applying twisted wire cloisonne cells and firing enamel. Otherwise hot air would expand and the egg would explode.

Hi IVAN, thanks so much for letting me know why there is a hole at the bottom, I always wondered about this because in general most of the eggs have these holes. Your explanation makes prefect sense.
