This flintlock rifle has a 41" barrel, beautiful tiger maple stock, very good condition and shoots darn good. It was made by the Hatfield clan about 80 years ago and I acquired it at an estate sale 5 years ago along with 4 other muzzle loaders including a Sharon. I am taking it to a Rendezvous in two weeks and put it thru its paces.

was lucky enough to trip over your poste again & study it closer. Notice the bend in the frizzen spring where it contacts the frizzen arm & see it as & improvement that probably would make the frizzen pop open a little faster. I also noticed that the trigger guard doesn't appear to be inset into the wood. Is there a reason & are screws used there instead of pins? That wood is almost a burl.
What you see is the way I got the rifle. I never questioned any of the way it is built so really have no explanations for you.. And yes, screws are used instead of pins.. The wood is certainly on the side of burl and does not have so much of the traditional heavy stripes that we are used to seeing. Again, it is the way I got it and how it was described to me. I will try to get some good photos of my other prize, a .45 JG LUTZ Pennsylvania that has a lot of carving and engraving, then post it on this site.
