I love this pink depression glass server but I've been wondering what it was used for? My mother always used it at parties with olives on one side of the divider and pickles on the other. Does anyone out there in collector's weekly land know what it is supposed to be used for?

it is a divided (2-part) relish; so olives and pickles would be fit. The pattern is Hocking's 'Oyster and Pearl' c1938.

Thank you Tall Cakes! I was thinking about selling it in my etsy store bc I never use it but now I'm not sure I could part with it! It has been sitting unused in the bottom of a cabinet in my kitchen for years!

I'm new here ..... Is it okay too ask how much you think it's worth? (I just checked out your website and you really know your stuff!)

the rules do state no requests for appraisals... Best guide is to check completed auctions to see current values.

It's only worth about $20. Doesn't seem worth it to lose a family heirloom.

So true! We're moving out of state so I'm trying to lighten the load too. I have some heirlooms I will never part with. Just not sure this is one I really love. Thanks for the info! :)

The value is probably depressed because there's a lot of Oyster and Pearl Pink available at the moment. It's a pretty enough pattern, I have some of the pieces in clear. :)

You're very welcome. Perhaps you should mark your mystery as solved, and a thanks to TallCakes for the ID if you feel so inclined. :)

P.S. I decided to keep it! I never use it and forgot I even had it truthfully but it does remind me of my mother and a different era in time.

Okay, getting confused again. There's two or three patterns I've seen being IDed as Oysters and Pearl, Burple, and another name, forget now what.

yes, there is confusion on the 'Oyster & Pearl' and the 'Burple/Inspiration' patterns, as well as 'Boopie/Berwick' and 'Bubble/Early American'. Online auction sites have many of these patterns incorrectly listed.
