I ve been doin research on this guitar for about a week or so and I can find only limited info on it. I need help on inquiring more info on this guitar please. The information I do know is that is a 1970's Gretch Roc 1. I read that it was designed originally for the monkeys but was never mass produce due to the bands split pre-70's. Not to sure how accurate this info is I'm definitely interested in learning more about this guitar. Please help if you have any info.
    Thank you.

You know, Michael Nesmith still plays at the age of 72, and not only did Gretch customize his 6 string electric into a 12 string for him but they also fashioned him another electric 21 string guitar that he used later on the TV show. He has a Facebook page, why not message him to see what he can tell you about it? If I had that guitar, I would ask him :)

I had a big crush on him when I was little, I would watch them on TV and I told my little sister that because we both had the same birthday month and day that it meant we were destined to be together LOL. Oy vey the things we say when we are young right? I just remembered that reading your description about this very nice guitar, and I can see myself telling my sister that and I still remember the look on her face too. It was like, "Are you bonkers or something?" That made me get a good laugh remembering that. Oh and Mickey Dolenz and Peter Tork are pairing up this summer to do a few dates together too. That there reminds me of my age, something I like to forget hahaha. Anyhow, what do you have to lose, message Mike Nesmith and see if he throws anything back your way. Nice guitar :)

Hi, I just saw this post. I have some info. about this guitar. Do you still own it? I see this post is 7 years old...

NorthernR.N., a friend of mine has a Roc II with two PAF style humbuckers. We have tasked several aficionados to help us locate the backstory of this model (Gretsch 7621, the single pickup was 7635, 1974-1977) and we can't find squat. I would love to learn more if you will share what you have found. Thanks!

Hi there, Well, my mom bought me a guitar exactly like this one for Christmas 1975, I think, or perhaps 1976. In fact, I believe this is my guitar, stolen from me in the mid 80's! We got it brand new from my friends dad, who worked for Gretsch! Bought this guitar because it was sooo beautiful, and played and sounded so good, and was different from other guitars! Was looking on the internet for a Roc 1, like mine, and saw these pics that i very strongly believe is my old guitar! What would u guys like to know? This one was made in 1975 or 76 at the latest, if I recall correctly... It is a Roc 1. Had 2 PAF style humbuckers... Played and sounded great!!! Anyone know where this exact guitar is, that is pictured here!?! I would love to get it back for sentimental reasons, as it was my first electric guitar, (after selling my drum set), that my mom gave me for Christmas when i was a kid!!!

Oh btw dsteel, In addition to what i wrote above about my old Roc I, in doing some research on these guitars, I read that the prototype for the Roc II's had a switch for distortion and some other kind of trick thing built into the guitar! I doubt that made it into the production models that were sold to the general public though? lol The Roc II's that i have seen pics of, look very much like the guitar pictured here, which I believe is my old guitar...., not sure what the Roc II's sound like... lol

Northern R.N., sorry for the slow response. I turned on the notifications to be emailed when a comment was posted, but I have yet to see one. Thanks for your insights and I have a friend who is selling a 1977 Roc II (two PAF style humbuckers) with original hang tang. It is my understanding the Roc I only had one humbucker. I haven't found out much more about these other than the mahogany is from Baldwin's piano wood stock. Baldwin owned Gretsch at the time.

The mahogany on mine sure was nice on mine, which looked exactly like the one pictured above... How much is ur friend asking for his Roc II? Am i allowed to ask that on here? lol Mine sure did play great! Although i am more of a whammy bar player now days... lol

dsteel, Did your friend sell that guitar? How much are they asking for it? I might be interested in buying one that looks like the one pictured above!
