When I was young (born in 1962) ice cream at my grandma's house was as special as it should have been. My grandma lived in what we called "the cottage", it was built in 1923 along the shore's of Lake Michigan, as a wedding gift from my grandfather, to my grandmother. I guess like most cottage's in those day's, the lighting consisted of a bare bulb, hung by a cloth like cord. the cottage also had no heat except for a big stone fireplace, it also had no hot water ! who needed hot water in a seasonal cottage, especially with the lake so close ? well, us grand kid's did, especially for the ice cream that came out of the "ice box" in her TINY, old Kelvinator refrigerator. the freezer in that thing held 2 metal tray's for ice cube's, OR a couple of piece's of frozen meat, but not both. when we were there it always had ice cream, hard as a rock ice cream ... so hard, the scoop couldn't even dent it, what to do ? grandma would boil water of course ! I don 't think this scoop is very old, or really scooped a very big scoop (by today's comparison) but it's full of memories for me.

Such a great story! I love things that others may think ordinary but which to us are definitely NOT!
