I had a nice enough one that was slightly more recent - the stem of the caliper stopped in the joint instead of passing through it the way this one does. This is a more interesting construction. I got it in an ebay auction on this site. The only other one I have with a joint like this is a Stanley No. 15, shown in the second picture with the No. 13 1/2.

You have the First Generation of 13 1/2! I have 4 from that era three have imperfections , The last one I got is in excellant condition. The second generation the stop 1/2 and in into the plate, started in 1922. Nice Piece by the way.

You are obviously a serious rule collector. When did you start collecting? How many rules do you have? I started in 1995 and have had as many as 100 to 105 at a time, but I'm down to about 50 now after upgrading for condition and rarity. They're becoming harder and harder to find, with fewer and fewer bargains to be had. I also have Phil Stanley's book, signed by him at a tool show almost 20 years ago. Neither a carpenter nor a tool buff -- just happen to find these rules irresistible.
