This is one of 4 trunks I purchased at an Estate/Moving sale this past weekend can anyone tell me anything about it.This is my first time posting on this site,I just came across it last night.

It is a cross slat barrel top trunk .Made sometime in the 1880s thru 90s.more than likely. There were many manufacturers of this style of trunk during the time period, hard to know who made it without a label. The lock, however was made by the Star Lock Co. of Phila. There are 4 separate patents for this lock, 2 concern the lock and two the latch.

This info was passed on to me by Jim Cardoza of HMS trunks, for I have a similar lock on a trunk that I own . It is one of the better brass locks made, as the star rotates to expose the keyhole (hopefully all that paint isn't gumming it up) .Much luck with it,hope this helps.

I think it is safe to restore this one. Looks like you can pretty much do what you want to it. How is the inside? Inserts? Picture inside the lid top?
The Star is what easily identified the lock maker ,Star Lock Works originally formed by Conrad Liebrich(from Germany) in 1836. After his retirement in 1869 his two partners Louis Hillebrand and Daniel Wolf Adopted the Star as the trademark for the company. Almost all of their locks,padlocks included had some form of star on the product.Here is an image of their business card.hope the link works.
