Founded in 1860, the Duxer Porzellanmanufacktur - better known as Royal Dux - was a factory located in the ancient region of Bohemia, now the Czech Republic, known for high quality and exclusivity of its porcelain.

The pieces attached to a classic taste and manners, a principle.. gave way, with the passing of a new century, with a clear pieces like Art Nouveau (which would end up being style reference worldwide).

However, World War I, became not only a turning point for the society but for a Factory, which should satisfy the growing taste for the modern as idea of ??progress.

A good example is the rare Lioness orange porcelain, whose seal at the base, determined in 1925 the year of manufacture.

At such times, an emerging style: "Art Deco" will begin to take shape. The magnificent discoveries in Egypt, as Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922, would make society and culture cease to be inspired by the acclaimed oriental culture, during the Art Nouveau period; to notice the nearby Africa, as they did a few years before the Cubists.

Thus, renewal came to the factory. While continuing to use a top quality porcelain, or fail to treat forms of academic way... the issue became exotic and African, as in this piece showing a lioness in attack, and whose main purpose would be to meet the new canons of Art Deco.

However, if you include something truly special about this piece: the use of color. An orange-vermilion color... new, strong and vibrant, which covers a flat shape without nuances... inspired by the avant-garde and neighbor, Bauhaus School; and advancing the course of a nascent Art Deco that in the following years it would be consolidated in the new world order.

In short, we have a transition piece between two new ways of seeing the world. With the ability to track and filling fascinating enigma, to any viewer of today who has it in front.
