i picked this up the other day and still have no idea what it is. it kind of reminds me of something used in the Catholic church, but i can't remember what it is. it's probably made in India as were so many brass pieces were.
You see these things sitting beside holy persons ... Is it a "diya" .... A lamp stand ?

You might be thinking about a luna or a paten, ho2cultcha, those are two vessels for hosts, there are others as well. There may be different for Orthodox, I don't know.
Paten! that's what i was trying to think of katherinescollections! thank you. vetraio might be right though. i found a greasy burnt residue inside it as if it were used as an altar lamp.
