I know some here know of my appreciation of the under valued Koshida Glass company.
I hope this post makes others see why I rate it in Japanese glass.

I have quite a bit of Koshida glass now (well of course you do Karen!) and I like it all. Lovely colours, nice shapes and very well made. It is rare to see any faults in Koshida glass.

This beauty is 34cm tall and reasonably heavy at 2.6kg.
Made from a fantastic rich red glass with yellow tips on the fingers, all cased in clear.
It shows the distinctive moulded base of Koshida, and although the photo looks it, the base is polished not matte.

Koshida are probably better known for their coloured pressed glass; things like lovely little leaf dish sets and condiment plates. They did not appear to make art glass for long, and I think this fits right in the middle of that period - late 60s.

      Beautiful colour!
This one looks familiar to me.Similarly designed vases were produced in Zabkowice in that period .They varies of course but such features like slender and streamlined shape and curved rim are common.

It's a beauty Karen :).... color like a giant ruby what's not to love. Red always gets my vote.

Hi Karen. This reminds me of a vase (pulled finger type) I have. It has a similar looking base, except mine Is matt it does have the shiny dip on the base, as yours looks here. I wondered, do you know of any obvious signs to look for in determining Koshida glass?

      Thanks for the lurve Katherine.

Ivonne I think this style was popular in the 60s....I will look it up for the Zabkowice ones....I'm sure they are stunning.

Thanks Mike...... red glass can be wonderful I agree.

Glad you like them all Sean.

Fran there are some other brands that made a style like this with a moulded ring base.
I tell them apart by finish first, then size (Koshida made large), and the ring on the others is usually raised, narrow, and rough.
if it's handy, post a pic and we'll do a comparison.

Hey thanks SD. I have seen some on GB Ebay and with your luck one will turn up at the tip!

Thanks for the tips Karen. I did have the vase posted but it wasn't ID'ed, so I'm guessing it's probably not Japanese (or you would have known it:) unfortunately it's not to hand, come to think of it, I've no idea where it is.
