I picked up these candlesticks yesterday at a market fair here in Denmark.

They are 18cm tall and have an inscription with a date "22/10. 03." and the initials 'GH'. The last digit in the date must refer to 1903, which puts them in the art nouveau period, which is also consistent with the design. They are also marked with the number '46' on the bottom, funny thing is that the number on one of them is upside down, so it would seem the number was applied after they were cast.

The seller unfortunately didn't know much about them.

I've searched for them online in auction results databases, on google in more than one language, and in a couple of books I have on the art nouveau period, but with no luck so far. I hope someone here might know something :) I am very interested in finding out who made them.

Hi mmollari, Nice sticks, great to get a pair that still have their removable bobeches (wax catchers).

I've seen these sticks before with makers marks, think I owned one fifteen years ago, but don't know if I have a pic anywhere. The GH mark will be an owners monogram, these were made by either Orivit, Kayserzinn, Urania, Juventa, or Orion. I'm thinking Juventa? but if I remember which one, I'll come back to you.

You can read about these makers here: http://www.pewterbank.com/Osiris_Orivit_Orion_Urania_Gerhardi_Juventi_Kayserzinn_Marks_-_Designers..23.pdf
