Lovely piece I picked up in Boston. Quite large, 8 x 10. Appears to be silk thread linked together and sewn together on the back. Gold bullion thread highlights. What could this be from? What is this called? Embroidery, crewel needlework? It was cut from white muslin, so did it come from a flag?

Any idea of date? Statue of Liberty celebration of 1886, the landing of Lafayette in Boston in 1824, is it that old? I believe it is quite old.

It was displayed on a white piece of batting, in a glass topped box.

I am in love with it and would like to know your thoughts, as well as how I might best display it (on silk and framed, etc). Anything helps!

Thank you in advance for looking!

This looks to be a wall hanging from a fraternal order of which there were many at the turn of the century ca 1900. Just be careful as the silk is usually weak now.
      Stuffed embroidery as well
