My old red chest with Dome Top. I think it's mostly original except for the leather strap handles have been correctly replaced. I believe the outer is correct and not altered. Nevertheless, I've assumed the position and am ready for the experts.

The trunk experts are certainly here & I don't think you have to bend over now. I'm not one of them but luv to watch & learn.
How is it on the inside? It is a great trunk.
You can straighten up now. They are moving in. I would like to see pix of the inside also. Might think of a 2nd follow-up poste for that.
When I got it, I opened it up and shut it right away. The inside has been "contact papered". (which leaves minimal residue) I was told that she did that because the original interior disintegrated and she didn't want to paint it, or do anything that would harm it's value. So it is completely restorable (sp) without having to do any repairs. Right now, it is full of Christmas decorations. I know of a sight that supplies inner linings, and I expect that some day I will get to it. First I would need to conduct a massive reduction to my Christmas inventory. LOL.

Nice looking trunk, it has great hardware. I'm not an expect but I would say the red paint isn't original. Happy to see they didn't paint the wood. I have a lot of trunks and they are great places to hide things. I'm at the point that I hide small trunks inside the bigger ones, sure that is a sign I'm a trunk addict.
