I picked up the curvy orange and yellow vase at Goodwill today. I thought I'd post it with my red spatter vase from about a year ago. They both have interesting shapes but are quite different in construction. The red vase is 7" and heavier and thicker. It has three layers that I can detect. A thick clear outer layer, the spatter layer and then the white interior. The orange vase is 8" and lighter and thinner with only two layers. A thin clear outer layer over the spatter glass layer. The tops both appear to have been ground flat. Both bottoms look smooth with no maker marks or pontils. I would guess they were made in a mold to get their precise shapes. Not even going to guess their origin but after seeing all the spatter glass posts lately I'll go out on a limb and say Bohemian. -Mike-

Thanks to welzebub for identifying my new orange vase as a known Welz decor. I think I'm finally on my way to having a collection of Czech art glass. :)

Both the décor and shape on your new vase have been identified as Welz production. Other examples of the shape in different décors have also been found with a mark on the underside which is commonly found on Welz production, although the mark is not used for the purpose of identification.

Included in found examples of this décor are a fan vase and a footed compote style bowl, both of which are documented in Welz factory literature. Additionally, a wall pocket with an "FWK" Welz label on it, is known in the same décor.

Your other example is a shape I have in my own collection in a different décor. It is seen in several décors and as far as I am aware has never been solidly linked to any production house. Rückl has been suggested, but no actual evidence has ever been provided to support the suggestion.

      Hope this helps.

You have a couple of very nice examples.

Glad to help.... For what it is worth, I also have a small table lamp in my collection by Welz in the orange and yellow décor. The colors are better in person than the pics ever show. Very vibrant and alive, so to speak.

Thanks Rick :)..... they're doing a heavy duty remodel of our local Goodwill. Everything is scattered all over the place. This was with all the ordinary house glassware and surprisingly not a speck of damage !

I love the waves of color as it wraps around this vase welzebub and there was something about the way it feels that I knew it was something better than ordinary glass.

You guys seem to find all these great items at your Goodwills. Ours carries nothing more than junk :) Probably has to do with us being in a very small town...

We have our fair share of those too Rick. I don't count any place out anymore because I've found some great things in the weirdest places. This particular Goodwill was dumpy but it's turning around with the remodel. My Lawson abstract painting and bronze Cupid all came from there go figure !
