    The Chicago typewriter model 1 is a continuation of the Munson Model 3 which was bought in 1897 by The Chicago Typewriter company and the name was soon changed to The Chicago . The company was purchased in 1912, and changed the name at that point.
    This dates this example of the Model 1 to between 1898 and 1912.
    The name was appropriated in the 20's and 30's as a nickname for the Tommy gun
