Hello there. I bought these open peg sided shelves from an antique store in my home town. I didn't notice until some time later that they had a RD No engraved on the reverse (412172). I wondered if anybody here would know how I might be able to use this number to find out more about their history? It would be nice to know more if possible.

They also have a numbering system engraved in the front of each shelf (excluding the top shelf). The antique shop man said this would have been for someone's encyclopedia collection most likely.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Kind regards
    Alison

A number of years ago, around the 1960's give or take 10 years. Door to door salesmen sold encyclopedia sets. No computers back then so books were the thing. If you bought the set of encyclopedias from him he would throw in a book shelf for free. That may be what you have here.

I also found out that the year the design was registered was 1906 - this was from the national archives website they reproduce the numbering system. Obviously the shelves could have been / most probably were made at a later date. Its good to have learned a little about the registration system though.

Hi there. Sorry for not replying I've been away for a few days. I didn't manage to find out who the design was registered to. Only got as far as finding out the year that the design number was registered from the web page that I managed to find. Any ideas of how to find out who the design was registered to would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Alison
