The plate measures 7" in diameter. The surface has a cracking-crackle appearance. There is something on the back that looks like a word but it's barely visible. I would love to know what the pattern and manufacturer is and whether or not this is, in fact, an antique piece.
Looks like it had been placed in a warming oven, back of stove a lot.
Thanks for answering. Ahhh, so those crackly lines might have been caused by placing it in an oven? I have seen other dishes with this same crackly character and just assumed the crackle effect was caused by age....hahaha, kinda like us old folks. I feel and look like I've been put into an oven........and left there. Hahahaha.
No, I wasn't talking only about the PIECE crazing--I was referring to the "toasty look" especially around top--that looks like heat craze. And some people did bake in dishes back when if applicable, but my grandmother's cast iron oven had a place at top of stove rear called the warming oven. If fathers and husbands were working late--wives put their plate of food there to keep it warm til the men-folk came back home--Some of her dishes looked just like yours! It gives off something very special & sentimental to see how much a piece was used, and how happy dad would be to take his plate out of the warming oven-- and yummy--made by his wife taking good care that he would have a warm meal after a long , hard day. Now its, refrigerate and pop in the micro. With love?
Thanks so much for responding . Ahhh, you imparted a bit of history to me that I was not aware of. Very interesting. I am going to then assume that this is, in fact, an antique piece and will treasure it even though it was never part of my family's history. I just LOVE the "old" stuff. Yes, today's handling of family dinners is much different than it was back in the day. There's very little gathering around the dining room table anymore; lifestyles have changed tremendously over the decades, much to society's dismay. If we could only rewind......society would be better off I think.
