This old brass hand tool was found buried under a pile of scrap metal bits, I have no idea what it is or what it would be used for, help required with this one please.
There must be someone out there that knows exactly what it is?
It is made of brass with steel springs and steel pins through the pivot points.
As the handles are closed the jaw sets spread as each jaw closes, so as to grip and stretch an item.
The jaws also have a small step in each side so as to help grip an item.
The steel pins and springs are a bit rusty, the spring have lost their strength but you can see how this tools works.
Also one of the small side guides is broken off.
The name on one handle is "JASON", on the other handle is "PAT P".
    These are stamped in.
Tool measures 120mm x 100mm across handle tips.

    thanks kindly, oldstuffisbest.

I have seen something similar at farm auctions. It looks like the device used to put nose rings in cattle.

Thanks Sting, I'll follow that lead up, its different to the nose ring inserters I've seen but could be possible?

      "Piston Ring Expander"

RING EXPANDER, that's what it is, thanks for the lead "frisco".
I found an old fellow here that was a motor mechanic during the 30's amd 40's and after inspecting my item has confirmed that it is indeed an old piston ring spreader/expander, very similar to the ones that he had used.
I'll mark it off now as SOLVED.
Thank-you "collectorsweekly, untill next time, cheers - oldstuffisbest.
