Posted in response to a question regarding the similarity of Kellogg and Western Electric colors. The set on the left is Kellogg and the one on the right is WE.

Most companies followed the lead of Western Electric, as they were backed by market research studies and had lots of market power.

When WE changed the color list in about 1957 or 58, the others quickly followed.

The similarities can be seen in the chart on the "Phones In Color" page of my site at http://www.paul-f.com/color.htm.
