I scrubbed it clean since the pictures so its a little whiter and less dirty on bottom now. Where it is not glazed it looks like a grey clay. maybe a grain here or there mixed in. It came off a 100 year old farm in south central pa. Sitting next to a pile of ball, kerr, metro, and all sorts of canning jars...it was filthy. i noticed the inside of jug is glazed brown and outside white. The only marking is a deep small looks to be accidental slash near the flattened unglazed shoulder. There seems to be "bubbles" in the glaze and this piece was all hand made no mold. you can tell because the bottom is thick and the middle comes in a bit. The spout hole is mishapen to. Its heavy and i think it can hold a gallon. unsigned...im wondering how old it is and possibly who made it...?
