Love this basket! Colors not as bright as in photos. Very tight weave. Measures approximately 13" wide, 12" high, with 7" opening. Somewhat soft and flexible and out of round. Material appears to be natural. Colors of material are a golden brown with some washed out green and darker brown (subtle hint of mauve or pink) accents. Found in Colorado at estate sale. I'm not basket expert. Any ideas on origin. Definitely vintage.

It's African, a Bolga market basket, from the Bolgatanga region of Ghana, in west Africa.

They are woven from a local material called kinkanhe grass, and are identified by this unique handle design. Newer ones often have handles wrapped with leather.

Yes, thank you! I have been researching more today and had found the Bolga baskets and agree. The lady whose estate it came from was a world traveler so that fits also. I do believe this is a vintage one. I was really hoping it was Native American but once I read about the Bolgas, I was happy to know this. I know you can still by these but I believe this is a vintage one. Thanks for the help!
