I inherited this lantern and am having a difficult time identifying it. There are no markings, it's heavy, weighing in at 7lbs, 11 oz, stands 16" not including handle. Any thoughts??? Thanks!

It's a portable switch signal kerosene lamp for railroads.

thanks just_a_random_guy...do you have any idea who made this one or where I can find more info? I'm stumped!

I wish I could add more. Those sorts of kerosene lanterns were still in when I was young. I lived near a passenger terminal/train yard in the 50s. I'd bet your lantern is older.

You've been a big help so now I have some idea as to what it is. Living near a train yard as a kid must have been fun!
