Purchased this many years back as an English Library Chair. Have since been led to believe it is a chair used by the bookmaker at cockfights many years ago.

It swivels, is intricately carved in an oakleaf motif, has three hidden drawers, one in the base and one in either arm. It also has a reading / writing stand that folds up from the back and one sits in it backwards, straddling the seat and resting their arms on the armrests.

Saw another similar one only once at M. S. Rau in New Orleans and they are who indicated it was associated with cockfights.

Can anyone tell me anything about this?

I've been to a couple of cock fights & never seen anything like it. I remember that an Eng. girlfriend was very disappointed in Haiti to find out the fight was "They're chickens!"
