    Hi
    Everyone.
I really love everything from Inuit or Eskimo, well i believe the reason could be because my wife have direct blood line with them on the north side of the St -Lawrence River, they being there long time before white settlement establish colony's in north America.
In my travel to find treasure at thrift stores, i found many Soapstone carving and Mask from native American tribe, last month i was at value village looking around and i found 2 carving from Inuit or Eskimo tribe, this is the second one, depicted an Hunter with a bear on his shoulder carve in one piece of stone, this certainly made by someone with lot of talent, some numbers under the piece,#948, this have quite of aging and wear, also i don't believe this was a tourist piece.

This carving is 5.50 inch tall, 2.25 inch wide.

    Thanks for Viewing.

Great find Alan :)..... I have one quite similar which I posted a while ago. My research found out quite a bit. The numbers are part of an old Canadian government disc ID number . These numbers were the personal ID for an Inuit carver. The disc number ID system began in the 1940's and ceased by the 1970's.
      Here's a great site for ID's:
