Most normal pocket watch collectors who would see this dollar watch, would never pick it up and consider adding it to their collection, seeing that the original dial had been molested.
Well, I guess I am not the "normal" collector. When I saw this, I saw an individual, past or current veteran of this time, who probably didn't want to spend an "extra dollar" to purchase a "UNCLE SAM" dial marked E. Ingraham pocket watch, when he had a perfectly good running New Haven pocket watch, even though the New Haven Clock Company never produced a dial marked "UNCLE SAM". So being an frugal individual with an imagination, he crudely cut out the center of the existing paper dial and inserted a like crudely cut insert of a different white-tone color, and not only named his watch UNCLE SAM, but also noted an address, possibly the building that he went to so he could enlist in the armed force of his choice, at 962 WASHINGTON ST. OAKLAND, CALIF.
I thought this was a clever idea on his part, so I needed it to add it to the E. Ingraham watches I have with the dials marked, UNCLE SAM and UNCLE SAM TRADE MARK.
This watch is a New Haven manufactured watch with the movement marked: PATS JULY 29.02. MAY 8.06. The back cover has the Guarantee paper insert in place.

    Thanks for looking,
    Dave

Kerry, it has been a long time since I have been in Oakland, CA., but once when there I looked for the address and if I remember correctly it was a big parking lot in the downtown business district.
