This is a B. Edwards of Belfast decanter, with two feathered neck rings, a mould blown fluted base and a press moulded bullseye stopper. The body is etched with a cartouche and foliage between two boundaries surmounted by wheat ears. The cartouche has the name Martha Clement. Made 1790-1800. The glass works of Benjamin Edwards, formally a glass worker in Bristol, were first recorded in Belfast in 1781 and continued until 1829.

This is a classic decanter for B.Edwards of Belfast with two feathered neck rings. I had this confirmed by the lovely people at Ulster Museum in Belfast just to be sure. Super super rare (i.e. I know of no other like this, books or museums) with a named cartouche, but unfortunately I have been unable to find out who this lady is.

It came from an unsuspecting seller on eBay, it is one of my favourite things.

I found a Martha Clement baptismal record for 1806 at Wicklow, Ireland. this could have been to commemorate her birth. No earlier Irish records for this name.
