USS Saratoga CV-60 Aircraft Carrier (1952-1994) -- Pictorial ASH TRAY made in Italy
(Actually I have two of them)
Saratoga was decommissioned at the Naval Station, Mayport, Florida, on 20 August 1994.
USS Saratoga (CV/CVA/CVB-60), was a Forrestal class supercarrier. The Saratoga is the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the Battle of Saratoga in the American Revolutionary War.
She was ordered as a "Large Aircraft Carrier", hull classification symbol CVB-60, and her contract was awarded to the New York Naval Shipyard of New York City on 23 July 1952. She is the second of the four Forrestal-class carriers. She was reclassified as an "Attack Aircraft Carrier" (CVA-60) on 1 October 1952. Her keel was laid down on 16 December 1952.

Thank you KERRY, POP and TTOM
My brother served on the Saratoga as a AO2 during the early 1960's
AO2, would that be Aviation Executive Officer?
K, that's Avation Odrinanceman second class. Just so you know.....
Pop ... I had a DUH moment. I didn't hang around any airdales. No carrier duty for me.
My cousin Paul was the CO of the Aircraft Carrier USS JFK . . . he retired a few years ago and now works at Duke University in NC. He got married at the Bethesda MD Officers Facility back in the early 70's . . . it was a very memorable wedding for me to attend. I also visited back in the 80's out in San Diego when he was handed to sword to take over the USS JFK duties . . . that was something to see. He also took me to the Naval Air Force Base to see the Top Gun Fighter Planes where the movie was being shot. I went up the ladder to the cockpit . . . but, did not get into the jet. It was neat to see. I will keep in touch . . . joel1414
Joel ... it is good to hear your story and to hear of the good memories it still brings to you.
